Joseph A. Schwartz, Ph.D.

Professor · Statistical Consultant
Studying how biological and social influences combine to shape behavior and health over the life course.

Professor & Biosocial Researcher

I am a Professor in the College of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Florida State University, where I also co-direct the Biosocial Criminology Research and Policy Institute. I am additionally a Faculty Affiliate of the Center for Brain, Biology, and Behavior (CB3) at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

My research examines how biological and social factors combine to shape behavior and health across the life course. I work across four interconnected areas: the causes and consequences of traumatic brain injury, gene–environment interplay in developmental outcomes, stress and trauma in vulnerable populations, and the health and occupational well-being of correctional officers.

Alongside my academic work, I provide statistical consulting to professional organizations, labor unions, correctional and criminal justice agencies, and academic researchers.
